How to Connect Instagram & Facebook Page

Learn how to link your Instagram Professional account with a Facebook Page so you can enable Auto-DMs, Comment Automations, and automated Reel scheduling via Meta Graph API.

Why does Meta require a Facebook Page connection?

Meta's security architecture requires that all third-party developer platforms (like Creator Studio, ManyChat, or Hootsuite) authenticate Instagram Professional accounts through a linked Facebook Page. Even if you never post on Facebook, linking a blank Facebook Page acts as the security bridge for Instagram DMs and automations.

1Step 1: Switch Instagram to a Free Professional / Creator Account

Personal Instagram accounts do not have API access for automations. You can switch to a Professional account for free in seconds:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your mobile phone and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the ☰ Menu icon (top right) > Settings and privacy.
  3. Scroll down and tap Account type and tools (or For professionals).
  4. Select Switch to professional account and choose Creator or Business.

2Step 2: Connect Your Instagram Account to a Facebook Page

You can connect to an existing Facebook Page or create a new free Page during this step:

Option A: Directly from the Instagram App (Fastest)
  1. Go to your Instagram profile and tap Edit profile.
  2. Under Public business information, tap Page (or tap Facebook to connect to Facebook).
  3. Log in with your Facebook account credentials when prompted.
  4. It will then show your Facebook Pages. Select your Page to continue if already existing, or choose to create a new Facebook Page.
  5. Select the Page and click on Connect (or Done).
  6. (Note: In case of any connection errors or timeouts, go back and retry once).
  7. It will show Connected Successfully with your Facebook Page linked to your Instagram profile!
Option B: From Facebook Page Settings on Desktop
  1. Open Facebook and switch to your Page profile.
  2. Go to Settings > Linked Accounts > Instagram.
  3. Click Connect Account and sign in to your Instagram account.

3Step 3: Enable "Allow Access to Messages" (Crucial for Auto-DMs)

⚠️ Important: If this toggle is off, Instagram will block incoming webhook messages from triggering automations!
  1. In the Instagram app, go to Settings and privacy.
  2. Tap Messages and story replies > Message controls.
  3. Scroll to Connected tools and turn ON "Allow access to messages".

4Step 4: Authorize in Creator Studio

Now you are ready to link your channels with 1 click in Creator Studio:

  1. Navigate to Connected Accounts in the dashboard.
  2. Click Connect Instagram / Facebook.
  3. Select the Facebook Page and linked Instagram account on the Meta OAuth screen.
  4. Click Continue to grant permissions.
Your Instagram account and Facebook Page will instantly appear as Active under your channels!
